So fresh, so easy! Just chop your tomato, onion, jalapeno, garlic, cilantro, and combine with lime juice. Pico de Gallo (pronounced pee-co day guy-yo) is delicious on tacos, nachos, quesadillas, or served with chips and guacamole. It comes together in just 5 minutes and can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Pico de Gallo vs. Salsa
Pico de Gallo uses all raw (uncooked) ingredients. It involves chopping fresh ingredients and having large pieces of each ingredient than a traditional salsa. Salsa is often blended or chopped much smaller to make a liquid consistency, and often simmered on the stovetop. Both Pico de Gallo and salsa are tomato based and served cold with similar items (tacos, nachos, etc.).
Chopped, diced, minced: What’s the difference?
Before you begin, familiarize yourself with these cooking terms to get the right size ratios for each ingredient. All three involve using a knife to cut the ingredient smaller. This Pico de Gallo recipe uses all three to create a variety of textures, which will make the presentation and taste better, however it doesn’t need to be exact! Have fun with it, and you really can’t go wrong.
Chopped – larger, irregular-sized pieces
Diced – larger, uniform cube-shaped pieces
Minced– smaller, uniform cube-shaped pieces

Is Pico de Gallo healthy?
Yes! It uses a variety of fresh vegetables which will help you get your nutrients for the day. Tomatoes, jalapeños, and cilantro are rich in anti-oxidants. Tomatoes and cilantro are high in vitamin C. Red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro helps fight inflammation in the body. Jalapeños boost your metabolism and promote and healthy gut.
Variations
You can adjust the jalapeño depending on your spice preference. You can also adjust the amount of garlic to your preference and experiment with jarred minced garlic vs fresh garlic. You can add additional lime juice or even try it with a squeeze of lemon juice. Try a different onion (white onion, yellow onion, sweet onion, scallions).
